Iceland vs Cyprus October 11, 2013

Iceland will look to clinch second place in Group E of the  World Cup Qualifiers when it faces Cyprus on Friday.
Iceland currently sits in second place in the qualifiers with 13 points thus far; the top eight second place sides move on to the second round playoff with another group runner-up. The winner of that two leg matchup moves on to the World Cup Finals next summer.

Iceland has pulled off four wins, one draw, and three losses; one of them came against Cyprus on the road.
However, clinching the second spot will depend on a number of other factors going Iceland's way. Switzerland must draw or defeat Albania; the latter scenario is preferable because it  would impede Switzerland from claiming the top spot and give Iceland a chance to overtake them on Tuesday.

If Switzerland wins, then the Swiss will automatically qualify for the tournament.  Slovenia and Norway must also draw in order for Iceland to clinch the second place berth; Norway previously defeated Slovenia 2-1 in their first group meeting.

This is a UEFA Group E World Cup qualifying match between Iceland and Cyprus. Iceland is currently sitting in second, that would earn them a chance to compete in a playoff for a World Cup berth. It doesn’t look like they’ll catch first place Switzerland, who have a 5 point lead.

Iceland does need to be weary of other teams catching them. Three teams are within three points of their spot. If they falter and lose to Cyrpus, who sit in last place, they could lose their World Cup berth.

Prediction: Iceland will be home and has the decided advantage in this matchup. Expect the team to take advantage and win 2-0.
Start Time: Kick-off starts at 2:30 p.m. EST.
