Cardiff City vs Newcastle United October 5, 2013

Cardiff City host Newcastle United on Saturday hoping to build on their victory over Fulham last weekend.

That win took the Bluebirds up to 11th position in the Premier League table, and another three points over Newcastle could see Malky Mackay's side move into a top-eight place.

Mackay could hand a start to midfielder Jordon Mutch, who came off the bench to score the decisive goal at Craven Cottage last Saturday.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew will be expecting an improved performance from the Magpies after they were disappointing against Everton on Monday evening.

United were 3-0 behind before the break at Goodison Park, and that could lead to Pardew recalling Yohan Cabaye for the trip to the Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has almost a full squad to select from for the Premier League meeting with Cardiff. Andreas Cornelius, who continues to be hindered by a niggling ankle problem, is the only absentee for the clash with Alan Pardew's Magpies. Midfielder Jordon Mutch is pushing for a place after his stunning winner at Fulham last week, but Mackay is expected to stick with the same starting line-up.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has reported a clean bill of health. Yohan Cabaye was used only as a second-half substitute in Monday night's 3-2 defeat at Everton amid concerns over his match fitness, but Pardew expects him to be ready to start at the Cardiff City Stadium if required. Striker Shola Ameobi has recovered from his bout of flu and he, defender Steven Taylor and midfielder Jonas Gutierrez (both hamstring) could return to contention.
